    Future Reservations For Uber Customers
    Future Reservations For Uber Customers

Uber is attempting to take the corporate companies by storm offering an advanced booking option. The Connecticut Uber Team announced this past Thursday that advanced appointments anywhere from 15 minutes to 30 days in advance will be available in Hartford, Stamford, Bridgeport and New Haven. This service was tested in Seattle in June where riders can use the app to schedule, confirm and cancel their appointment. The app also sends out reminders to customers of their upcoming appointment. It is said that this new service came in response to the reports that Uber lost more than $1.27 billion in the first half of the year. It is no surprise that this overnight hit company has since came up with multiple ways to expand it’s revenue in more ways than one.

  • NYC Court rules NYC can use GPS to track taxi drivers

    New York City Cab

A federal appeals court ruled that New York City can track taxi drivers by using their cabs’ GPS systems.

The Second Circuit Court of Appeals ruling came in the case of taxi driver Hassan El-Nahal, who filed a lawsuit in 2013 charging that the tracking system violated his Fourth Amendment protection against unreasonable search and seizure. In the 2010 crackdown, El-Nahal one if the cabbies targeted who were overcharging passengers for fare prices.

GPS installed in Taxi’s Throughout NYC

The city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission were able to use the GPS devices that had been installed in cabs in 2004 to determine that some drivers were cheating passengers by charging a higher suburban fare when they were still in the city. El-Nahal felt as though his constitutional rights were violated when the commission “mandated the physical placement of tracking devices in privately owned taxicabs.” As a result, El-Nahal sued the city.NYC Taxi Driver Upset of GPS Ruling

The appeals court ruled that the use of the GPS devices was permitted. The court said El-Nahal couldn’t argue that the government had improperly intruded into his property since the GPS device had already been installed when he drove the cab.

“It could allow the government to require car manufacturers to install GPS devices in all cars to track individual drivers,” said the lawyer, Daniel Ackman. “They’d have no Fourth Amendment claim because they did not own the car when the device was installed.”

  • Chaos At JFK Airport

    JFK Shooting Scare
    JFK Shooting Scare

Speculations of an active shooter at the famous JFK airport sent air goers to stray in search of cover. These days, the sound of a gun shot is far too familiar although it still sends a frightening scare through our bones. With terrorist attacks becoming far too common, our alert is already on over drive.

    JFK under attack

Reports show that on August 14th there were calls about a shooting that was taking place at John F Kennedy airport. Passengers went running in every direction after hearing the rumors that there was a bomb or shooter on the lose. The rumors turned out to be false and there were no serious injuries that were reported. Still to this day there is no answer to what sparked the panic at JFK. One theory is the loud cheers from the crowd celebrating Usain Bolt’s victory at the Olympics scared passengers thinking it was a terrorist attack.

Though the scare at the JFK airport on Aug. 14th was false, it brought to light some serious flaws in every level of the airport security. Officials were slow to respond to these allegations and some were even confused of what the protocols were in this type of situation. Reports of T.S.A agents abandoning their post and no chain of command in place. The main defense against terrorist attacks at this New York airport is the Port Authority Police which failed to take control of the situation. Senator Schumer has since requested for the Department of Homeland Security to complete a federal review of the official response. Another one of Mr. Schumer’s requested was to see if cameras are placed correctly and there are proper drills in place to make sure the team is prepared these types of situations.

  • Plane Turbulence From Jetblue Sends 24 To The Hospital

    Air Turbulence on an airplane

Most of us are return flyers and understand that with flying comes turbulence. Turbulence s often uncomfortable but not dangerous. I like to think of this frequent uncomfortibility as the anticipated pot hole on the way to work. Well the recent turbulence that was experienced from a Jetblue flight was much more than a pothole.

    Injuries In The Air

    Jetblue airplane flying

Thursday evening a JetBlue Flight 429, headed from Boston to Sacramento experienced some rough turbulence that sent 24 to the hospital. 22 customers and 2 crew members were taken to the hospital for an evaluation. The flight had to be diverted to Rapid City, South Dakota, at about 6:30 p.m. A passenger on the flight state he saw a woman in front of him rise almost 2 feet in the air from not wearing her seat belt. “I literally grabbed her out of the air to hold her to the seat,” the passenger said, a software engineer from Sacramento. Other passengers looked at this experience as a bad dream that they were waiting to wake up from. People were hitting their heads left and right another passenger recalled.

    Fasten Safety Belt

    What causes turbulence?

Just in the United States there are an estimated 58 injuries each year due to turbulence. But what causes turbulence? Different weather situations can cause different types of turbulence. Clear air turbulence is the most common type of turbulence you will experience. There is no way to detect this ahead turbulence on a radar or weather forecast. The only way we can try to avoid it is by relying on reports from other air crafts. It is the job of your pilot to find the smoothest path as far away from turbulence causing situations.

  • Are Sleepy Drivers Becoming An Issue On The Roadways?

The world we live in is a fast paced, never sleeping, on the go all the time, world. A lot of the time it feels as if there is just not enough hours in the day to accomplish everything on your “to do” list for the day. When the issue of completing tasks is concerned, we have to overlook something else on our task list and unfortunately, that tends to be sleep.

Why do we need sleep anyways…….

Most of the human race zips around as if they are superman trying to save the world. We all know that superman doesn’t need sleep and he does just fine without it! Well, I’m sorry to break it to you but our body’s are not made like the great ol’ superman. For our body to work properly, the average person needs about 7-8 hours of sleep a day. Sleep is definitely a necessity, not a luxury. Here are some signs that you may not be getting an adequate amount of sleep:

    • Rely on the snooze button
    • Find it tough getting out of bed in the morning
    • Get sleepy in meetings, lectures, or warm rooms
    • Get drowsy after heavy meals or when driving
    • Fall asleep while watching TV or relaxing in the evening
    • Feel the need to sleep in on weekends
    • Fall asleep within five minutes of going to bed
    • Need an alarm clock in order to wake up on time
    • Have low energy in the afternoon
    • Must take a nap to get through the day

    Consequences of lost sleep

    Drowsy Driving Takes Lives

There are consequences with every negative action, so there is not alarm that there can also be consequences when you drive while tired. Drowsy driving is a very common and neglicted problem in America today. A report released Monday from the state safety advocates shows that drowsy driving is the cause of thousands of deaths each year in crashes that cost more than $100 billion. Drunk and distracted driving such as texting while driving has taken the spot light but drowsy driving is something we must shed light on. From 2009 through 2013, 72,000 crashes were caused by sleepy drivers. The effects of sleepy driving are similar to those of drunk driving. A driver awake for 18 hours will perform comparably to someone with a 0.05% blood-alcohol content, the report said. After being awake 21 hours, the driver mimics a 0.08% alcohol level, which is the definition for drunken driving in all states. Some well known cases include a case in June 2014  where a collision on the New Jersey Turnpike severely injured well known comedian Tracy Morgan and killed his friend James McNair. This was caused by a fatigued truck driver that rear ended Morgan;s limo, the National Transportation Safety Board ruled.

Another prominent case involved a World Wide Travel bus crash on March 12, 2011, on Interstate 95 in the direction of New York City from the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut. The NTSB said the crash, which killed 15 passengers and injured 17, was caused by driver fatigue and the time of crash: 5:38 a.m.

Don’t be a victim of drowsy driving

Hiring a car service is far from just a luxury, it is safety. Being at the airport all day is definitely enough to make a person fatigued and ready to hit the sheets. Don’t be that person thatTravel Safely wants to be superman and think you can pull through the sleepiness to drive on a busy highway all the home. Count on the company that has always been there for you no matter what. Reserve your car service many different ways. Choose from one of the following reservation options below to secure your car service.

  • Steps are being taken to get Connecticut Union workers rehired

Connecticut Union Workers Fight To Be Rehired

Getting a job is already hard so when you get a great job working for the state you might want to keep it. That is easier said than done when layoffs had to take place. As unemployment rates soared, union workers were definitely a big part of the community that was affected.

CT Union Workers Back to Work

    A fight for employment

Connecticut union leaders are taking some big steps to try and effect that unemployment rate in a great way. Actions are being put in place to help more than 1,000 laid-off state employees return back to work.

The Union spokeswoman Jennifer Schneider says that they plan to highlight the consequences of the job cuts that the state put into place to balance their budget.

    Steps Toward a Better Connecticut

On Wednesday, the union SEIU Healthcare 1199, New England, is launching a television ad campaign. The first 30-second spot features a woman with cerebral palsy named Jenny who needs a special computer to communicate. She says the only state employee who knows how to customize the device was laid off May 3. She urges the governor to re-hire the staffer and others.

Connecticut AFSCME Larry Dorman says his union has short- and long-term plans to restore services and get employees re-hired. Grievances and labor complaints have already been filed.
