  • Limousine Driver of Pittsburgh Helps Flood Victims In Style!

    pittsburgh-driver-image

It is common to see Limousines around White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, during the Greenbrier Classic golf tournament that is usually held in July. Due to a flood, the golf tournament was cancelled.

It was to Greenbrier County’s surprise to see a limousine strolling through town after such a devastating time. Inside this luxury vehicle were supplies that were sent from Kim Turner of Pittsburgh. Mr. Turner stated that after seeing the news of the reported floods in the area, he never second-guessed helping out his neighboring state.

A Heart Of Gold From This Pittsburgh Limo Driver

During his stay at the resort, Turner helped unload donation trucks and aid victims in need. He was at a loss for words when trying to describe what he saw. When asked for pictures, Turner said he took none.

“The people are so touching down there. I’ll tell you, some of the best people I’ve met in my life are from West Virginia,” he said. “I know there are bad people, but I didn’t meet one person in West Virginia I didn’t like.”

And just like any tragic event, life of society goes on and people tend to forget what is happening around them. The news stops reporting and talk about it gets old.

In an effort to counter what usually happens, Turner is discussing West Virginia’s recovery with all his clients and reaching out to many city organizations to donate. With Turners extreme efforts he has already raised donations from his family and friends.

  • Unlimited Free Wifi At LaGuardia, JFK and Newark airports

free-wifi-imageAdvocates of transportation are asking for favors but are they asking for too much? They are requesting that Port Authority airports such as John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia, and Newark offer not just free Wi-Fi but unlimited free Wi-Fi.

    Wi-Fi Withdrawals Ahead

In this day and age, Wi-Fi has been treated as a necessity. Where there is water, there is Wi-Fi, well we wish anyways. Though the bi-state agency offers 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi, after being stuck in sometimes dreadfully long layovers, 30 minutes just doesn’t cut it! There was an anticipated 2.6 million commuters traveled through LaGuardia, John F. Kennedy and Newark airports during the Fourth of July Weekend hat probably would have appreciated not having to use their roaming status to surf the web.  Laguardia, JFK and Newark are among 20 of the busiest airports and represent 3 out of five that do not offer this amenity.

Extreme Wait Times Call For More Wi-Fi Usage

The TSA currently recommends travelers to arrive two hours before take off which means there is more time to sit there and gaze at the wall. The Port Authority currently offers Wi-Fi packages with an hourly, daily or monthly rates. So after incurring the expenses of the plane ticket, the ride to and from the airport, baggage fees, food and what ever else you may need, ow you have to spend extra cash on Wi-Fi!

wifi-image“With customs and wait times on the rise and delays all too common, 30 minutes of Wi-Fi is not enough,” said Joseph Sitt, chairman of the alliance. “To bring the region’s airports into the 21st century, the Port Authority must equip its airports with this critical amenity for the more than 122 million passengers who use the airport each year.”

Sitt recommends the Port Authority adopt Wi-Fi offerings similar to those at other facilities, like Boston’s Logan International Airport or Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which offer unlimited Wi-Fi with intermittent advertisements.

JetBlue got with the program just last year and began offering the service on all flights and within Terminal 5 of JFK.

“It would be nice to have Wi-Fi because the signal is bad at those airports,” said Rohit Kottapalli, 28, of Hell’s Kitchen. “It should be either one or the other,” Kottapalli added. “Either give us free Wi-Fi or improve cell service.”

jetblue-jfk-imageIt is said that The Port Authority has been working to improve internet access. In 2014, it modified its agreement with its internet provider, Boingo Wireless, bringing $3.8 million in hardware and software improvements to launch its 30-minute free Wi-Fi service. Through email, Port Authority spokeswoman Cheryl Albiez did not seem receptive to the alliance’s request to expand.

“The Port Authority already has re-negotiated an existing contract with its provider Boingo to provide 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi service throughout the terminals at John F. Kennedy International, Newark International, LaGuardia and Stewart International airports, while improving service speed and reliability for travelers,” Albiez said.

  • Sikorsky Airport Runway Project is Continuing in June

sikosky-airport-imageThis well anticipated project was supposed to open a new era of air travel at Sikorsky Memorial Airport.

The safety upgrades have been stalled for months at the Stratford-based, Bridgeport-owned Sikorsky airport due to an ongoing federal review prompted by a contractor’s oversight and worsened by airport management problems.

    Money Lost for Sikorsky Airport

One city official stated that this airport already operates at a $500,000 yearly loss, with its primary runway out of service for the past eight months. This airport only has two runways to begin with.

airport-construction-image “This is a $43 million project,” said David Faile, president of the Friends of Sikorsky organization. “And all we have to show for it right now is (nearby) Main Street has been rebuilt (and) they rehabilitated a bunch of marshlands and wetlands, so we have turtle breeding grounds.

John Ricci, who oversees Sikorsky as the new head of Bridgeport’s public facilities department, is in hopes that the Federal Aviation Administration’s work stoppage order issued last Labor Day weekend will be lifted by June 6. Ricci assured us that he will do everything in his power to get this airport back as to bring convenience to its neighboring residents.

The targeted work amount is currently 65 days with no more bumps in the road.

    Importance for upgrades at Sikorsky

Wondering what the need for the safety upgrades at the Sikorsky Airport were? The safety work was drawn by the death of eight people in a 1994 plane crash.

There were many complications involved in this long drawn out project. Much time and preparation went into effect before the actual project began in 2014. Some of the main issues included the realignment of nearby Route 113 — Main Street — in Stratford to install a bed of concrete-like material designed to decelerate aircraft that overshoots the runway. Also in need were an entailed runway reconstruction, an upgraded drainage system and removal of hazardous waste.

Sikorsky sees some major bumps in the road

The project was briefly halted on more than one occasion. First, last June after a construction worker was killed when the gas-powered saw he was using kicked back and struck him in the neck. Then another contractor, over Labor Day weekend, allegedly drove a truck through an area where planes taxi. No one was in danger, but the so-called incursion alarmed the FAA. At that point, the main work left was the runway reconstruction.

With further investigation they found a number of items that were out of order including poor records for maintenance, inspection and training. He said the FAA also wanted some physical improvements to the airport, with better security among them.

One thing is for sure. While waiting on this airport to be ready for business, you can always count on a Stratford limo for your transportation needs.

  • 2016 Grammy’s Goes Out With a Bang!

2016-grammy-imageThe Grammy’s is the time of year where the hard working artists get their recognition for all of the time and effort that they put into their talent. Though everyone will continue to have their own opinion of who deserves what award, the fact of the matter is everyone will not always be happy. Of course this three-hour recognition show would not be complete with a little drama mixed in.

    Drama Stirs at the Grammys!

kendrick-lamarReports show that Rihanna and a surprise star Lauren Hill were listed as performances but backed out at the last minute. Luckily Kendrick Lamar was there to keep the fans entertained with his three act performance despite not being able to take home the Album of the Year Award. He performed to Blacker the Berry” and “Alright,” an anthem for the Black Lives Matter movement.

Later on in the night, Bonnie Raitt, Chris Stapleton and Gary Clark Jr. paid tribute to BB King with a spot-on performance of “The Thrill Is Gone” and Tori Kelly and James Bay had us dreaming of future collaborations with their mashup of “Hollow” and “Let It Go.” You know it was a rough night when singer Adele, with an almost perfect track record, struggles to perform due to technical and/or vocal issues.

    The Show Must Go On!

And of course lets not forget the ongoing feud between Taylor Swift and Kanye West which Swift addressed during her acceptance of the Album of the Year by stating:

“I want to say to all the young women out there—there are going to be people along the way who are going to try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame,” taylor-swift-imageSwift noted as her voice sounded shaky and strained. “But if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there. And that will be greatest feeling in the world.” This was reported to be brought on by the rappers previously released song where he directed lyrics to singer Taylor Swift by saying he was the one that made her famous.

    And The Winners Are……..

Enough with the drama! Lets recap all of the well deserving winners of the night!

    1. Record of the Year
      1. Uptown Funk-Mark Ronson Featuring Bruno Mars
    2.  Album of the Year

  • Airline Rules You Want To Know When Your Running Late

We all know that going on that trip to the airport can be a hectic time. I mean after all, if something in your life is ever going to go wrong, it usually chooses this time to happen. It can even feel likeairplane-picture you’re running a marathon race jumping hurtle after hurtle trying to get to your flight before you see it sailing through the sky without you on it.

Don’t you wish during tough times like this you could phone a friend for all of the right answers on what to do next? Well we are your friends that are calling in to give you all of the answers to make your hectic airport trip turn around. Make sure the next trip that doesn’t go as planned, you mention in a calm manner some of these rather unofficial rules that most airlines put into place.

    traffic-imageFlat Tire Rule

This rule gives check-in agents some flexibility to accommodate passengers for being late due to unforeseen incidents. Though the rule is known as the “flat tire” rule, the reason for being tardy doesn’t have to be due to a flat tire. There could be more than usual traffic on the road, an accident holding up traffic or any other reason causing you to miss your flight. There is no documentation needed to prove this.

This is of course an unofficial rule so it is always safe to contact the airline when you foresee that you might miss your flight. It is said that Southwest requires a notification phone call at lease 10 minutes before departure.

    Trip In Vain Rule

This rule is more on the hands of the airline. If for some reason the airline fails to get you where you were headed due to fault of their own, then the passenger is entitled to either a refund, credit, change or compensation.

    Here is an example:

A passenger is flying to Baltimore, Maryland to make a meeting and due to some airline failure the airline was unable to get the passenger to the destination in time for his meeting. There is nowMercedes-Sprinter  no reason for the passenger to go on this trip because he has now missed his meeting. This rule will now take into effect and the passenger is entitled to either a refund, credit, change or compensation.

    The Most Direct Routing Rule

If the airline has some sort of issue — especially if it’s a mechanical issue — and the airline decides to reroute a passenger through a series of hubs, each traveler is entitled to ask the airport for the most direct routing.

Many gate agents will not volunteer this information but mobile apps like WorldMate orTripIt will provide all possible routes between point A and point B.
